Has anyone gone to Palermo and seen the Capuchin Catacombs? If so, there is a little girl buried down there named Rosalia Lombardo. I am seeking anyone who might know something about her, her background and the biggie question: "How'd She Get Down There?".

She looks like a large expensive toy doll in a doll box and was buried there in 1920, embalmed to last over 100 years. She looks like asleep. As her anniversary of her death approaches, Dec. 6, 1920, I'd like to know more about her except what the tourists are all told. How did she die? How come she was the last person buried down there?

The Catacombs remind me of Edgar Allen Poe's descriptions of the underground tombs of THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO. Any info would be helpful.

If anyone between 18 to 35 years old is looking to travel all over Italy, Contiki has an awesome tour that goes to Lake Como, Venice, Assisi, Florence, Rome, and Sorrento for only $1500. I went on a Contiki last summer and it was the best experience of my life. The trip includes almost all meals, lodging, transportation, and some activities. It's a great way to travel, because the trips are not like normal tours where you are forced to follow an umbrella the whole time. You have lots of freedom to choose where you want to go at each stop and what you want to do. The tour guide is there the whole time, but they are only there to help you if you have any questions as to how to plan your day or things of that sort. The night life is also great. We went out partying every night, but if you don't like to party as much you can always stay in or hang out at the bars they have at the Contiki owned stays. When I went to Venice, I went on a gondola ride and it was so surreal. It honestly felt like you were in a movie set. We also went to a really nice dinner in Florence where we had a seven course meal. The place was filled with Contiki travelers and they had an Opera singer, and other musical performers. People were dancing the whole time and drinking wine...it was a blast. I think everyone needs to travel to Italy at least once in their lives, and there is no better way to do it than with Contiki. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Otherwise, check out the website contiki.com and book your trip now!

I just got back from Italy where my aunt taught me how to make her famous Carbonara. Carbonara is a typical dish originating in and around Rome, though you can find it just about anywhere. "Carbone" is the italian word for "coal" and Carbonara loosly translates as "coal-like" or "carbonized". Her recipe calls for LOTS of pepper (hence the coal-like appearence). it's mostly done to taste so you'll have to play around with the measurements.

Ingredients: (for 4 people)
1 LB of pasta (preferably penne or rigatoni)
3 Eggs
LOTS of pepper (about 3 teaspoons, more or less to taste)
5 -7 slices of prosciutto or pancetta (or to taste)
Olive Oil
Lemon Zest (about 1/4 teaspoon)
Parmigiano Regiano

1) Bring water to a boil
2) While waiting for water to boil, mix the eggs, pepper, and lemon zest (the lemon zest helps to lighten the eggs) togehter and beat. Don't add any salt, the prosciutto is pretty salty.
3) Once water is boiling, add pasta to water and start to saute the prosciutto in a large pan with some olive oil on medium heat. The prosciutto should be cooked but not crunchy.
4) Remove the pasta when it's still al dente, drain it, and add it tot he prosciutto for 10 - 20 seconds, stirring so that is mixes with the olive oil.
5) Add the parmigiano to the pasta to taste
5) This is VERY important, remove the pan from the heat and place it on a room temperature surface of the eggs will cook and you'll have scrambled eggs! Add the egg mixture to the pan and stir thouroughly.

Serve and eat right away, it doesn't hold very well.

Buon Appetito!

Here is info on a course i'm co-teaching in Italy, it is good for all artists or anyone who are needing a boost to refresh their creative substance.

http://www.lameridiana.us/uk/index.asp

In this course, each student is offered practical and inspirational guidelines for rediscovering their creative process and developing new dimensions to their work as an artist. We will focus on the process of creativity – physical, mental, and spiritual. The course has two systematic parts: the first uses exercises to open, expand and clear the 5 senses through yoga techniques, breathing exercises, and meditation. The second uses a series of visual exploration and strengthening exercises in both solo and group activities to invite a deeper intimacy with the creative process. We will then concretely explore the creative process through making a paper-mache masque, a group mandala, and a clay plaque.

Now he has inexplicably canceled the trip and will not answer our phone calls. I'm bitter and disappointed and can't even bear to think about Italy or even see the word "Italy" written, hence I am leaving this tribe. I know none of you know me and I hardly ever posted, this goodbye is mostly for me, as a way to get over NOT going to Rome. Ciao.
